COMMERCIAL DRIVER TRAINING (CDT) COURSE SUMMARY
Research & Defense Academy teaches the CDL with the Washington State Laws and DOL regulations in mind by adhering to the following:
A. COURSE DESCRIPTION
With the growing demand for qualified and well-trained drivers, Commercial Driver Training (CDT) is a developed a comprehensive program to train and educate students. Training consists of classroom instruction, demonstrations, hands-on basic maintenance, off road maneuvers and on-the-road driving.
At Research & Defense Academy we train students to test for the Class A license in order to drive as a Class B and a Class C. Additional endorsements may be taught by RDA or studied at Student’s leisure.
In general, Research & Defense Academy has a 1 instructor per 10 students ratio for classroom instruction and 1 instructor per 1 student for driving instruction.
B. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
Student is given Washington DOL materials for review. There will be handouts and instruction both in classroom and in driving yard.
C. COURSE OBJECTIVES
a. The students will be competent in filling out and maintaining Driver’s Log records, doing pre-trip vehicle inspections, coupling and uncoupling combination vehicles, backing and driving through basic skill maneuvers.
b. Students will have driven, on the road, in a variety of different tractor/trailer combinations, and have developed proficient skills.
c. At the completion of the 160-hour program, the student will have already taken their State Driving final examination. And be issued an OTR 10 Hour Training Certification.
d. Includes 110 hours of classroom/lab courses and 54 hours behind the wheel in order to successfully graduate from Research & Defense Academy in preparation for final Department of Licensing (DOL) testing.
e. At Research & Defense Academy no one fails! Training will continue as long as you are scheduled to test with DOL.We will work with you until you successfully pass the course, graduate, pass your DOL test, and obtain your CDL.
f. Specific endorsement training and instruction separate.

Week 1: 40 hours of classroom instruction (using JJ Keller Master Driver course)

Week 2: 10 hours of driving, 8 hours of backing, 22 hours of Observation/Lab/Pre-Trip/TAT
Week 3: 10 hours of driving, 8 hours of backing, 22 hours of Observation/Lab/Pre-Trip
Week 4: 10 hours of driving, 8 hours of backing, 22 hours of Observation/Lab/Pre-Trip
